INFORMATION ABOUT THE CENTRE

In order to cater to the needs of Sports Personnel of Southern Region comprising of the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Lakshadweep & Pondicherry, the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, established its branch at Sree kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore on 13-04-1974. The present Regional Office campus at Bangalore university, on Mysore Road, is built in an area of 101.2 acres. It has all the latest equipment and other infrastructure facilities for systematic and scientific training of elite sportsmen.

It implements and monitors the sports promotional schemes of SAI and Government of India in Southern Region. The faculty of Sports Sciences have the departments of Sports physiology, Sports Psychology, General Theory and methods of Training(GTMT), Bio-mechanics and Sports Medicine with imported and indigenous equipment for assisting in selection and nurture of talent. Considering the availability of vast infrastructure facilities, Scientific backup and the moderate climate throughout the year, this center is holding majority of the National camps in preparation for the major sports events like Olympics, World cup, Asian Games, common Wealth Games and other International tournaments.

It also prepares the High level sportsmen for Indian National Teams and for participating in various international competitions, the talent identified is systematically trained and progressed through intensive training for 6 to8 years towards the target of achieving high level sports performance by Centre of Excellence scheme at this center. This center also conducts diploma course for producing high caliber coaches in carious sports disciplines viz., Athletics, Badminton, Hockey, Kabaddi, Lawn tennis , Swimming, Volleyball, Taekwondo and Softball.

The public are also provided the facilities of this center through pay and play scheme.

MAIN OBJECTIVES:

01.    To promote and broad base sports in India.
02.    To train National Teams for participation in International Competitions.
03.    To prepare high caliber coaches and to enrich their competence and knowledge.
04.    To provide scientific back up to the National Campers and SAI trainees for achieving higher performance in sports.
05.    To identify talents and nurture them through various SAI Sports promotional schemes.
06.    To co-operate with other sports organizations and to provide information promotion, development and excellence in sports.
07.    To implement and monitor the sports promotional schemes of SAI and Government of India in Southern Region.

Academic Programme


INTRODUCTION:

Sports Authority of India, NS Southern Centre, Bangalore conducts the Diploma Course, Certificate Course and other Sports related course. The very purpose of the academic wing is to produce the Coaches of high caliber and quality to conduct Refresher Course for In-service course of Sports Authority of India to conduct the Six Weeks Certificate Course, to conduct Seminar, Conference and Clinics, to conduct Special Course for foreign students and others, to conduct special course for the Coaches of other State.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1.    To produce coaches of high caliber
2.    To conduct Refresher Courses for in-serving coaches
3.    To conduct 6 weeks certificate course in sports coaching for Physical Education Teachers and others.
4.    To organize seminars, conferences and clinics.
5.    To hold IOC Solidarity Courses.
6.    To conduct special courses for foreign students and others
7.    To produce experts in Sports Medicine.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

1.    To serve as Centre for possible information and sports
2.     To publish literature in various sports disciplines
3.     To endeavor to spread the Olympic ideals and movements amongst the coaches.
4.    Training of personnel from other countries as coaches
5.    To render assistance in talent scouting and training of potential sportspersons.
6.    To award sports scholarships to talented school and university students.
7.    To implement the National Sports Festival for Women, Rural Sports and North East Sports Festival on behalf of the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
8.     To provide guidance to I.S.I Sports Goods Manufacturers in standardizing Sports Equipment.
9.    To provide knowledge in Fitness and Sports Aerobics, Yoga, Adventurous Sports, trekking etc.
